No Trainer Customization In Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire?

Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire may and brendan

Gamefreak has done goofed with it's latest decision to cut the beloved trainer customization feature from it's latest remake.  All the unique customization options in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y which allowed players to alter their skin tone, purchase a wide variety of clothes and accessories, giving your trainer his or her own identity is supposedly gone, vamoose!

This much needed feature will not be making a return in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. Instead trainer customization will remain exclusive to the Kalos region from Pokemon X/Y (wait, what?!) according to the Game Freak director Junichi Masuda. The only customization players can look forward to is with Cosplay Pikachu...

Gamefreak continues with their tradition of "Here's a great feature everyone likes! Let's cut it!" What made Pokemon XY revolutionary was the ability to customize your avatar how you saw fit and while not entirely flawless, it gave players options but Gamefreak has only gone and taken that away from everyone, a feature which was adored by many.

For once you didn't have to be the cliche pale faced trainer in XY or wear generic threads. Let's not forget how social the franchise has become, which ties in with standing out and looking different. So with GF's backward stance, diversity is thrown out the window.

Ultimately trainer customization is an important feature which gave Gamefreak and Nintendo huge brownie points but with it's exclusion in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, they seriously dropped the ball. They dropped it.Why would you take a step backwards Gamefreak? Hopefully this awesome feature will make it's triumph return in future Pokemon games outside of remakes, (if that's the problem.) Gen 7 anyone?

  1. Bleh. Loved the self-expression in an immersive, realistic-ish world like Pokemon. Less interested now.

  2. Nintendo customers aren't allowed to have opinions

  3. Oh Game Freak.

    Why are you so dumb?

  4. And down the drain another GOOD feature goes, why do they keep removing the best aspects of their respective games with each new gen?

  5. That was my favourite feature new feature they've ever added. And as a result I'll probably skip this one. I was already on the fence, since the originals were my least liked generation of pokemon as is.

  6. Disappointed. What me and my girlfriend liked about character customization was that you were able to make yourself into the game (still very limited) but at least you were able to feel a little bit more like an individual in the game. Now we are all forced to be clones of each other.

  7. Pokemon should be a game that offers customization. X & Y did the first step (even though it was a bit too less) but it was awesome to create your own opening with your favourite Pokemon. Imagine having your opening being played when someone enters your base to fight you.

  8. Hugely backwards decision. "Enjoyed being a different skin colour in the previous game? TOO BAD HAVE FUN BEING JUST WHITE AGAIN!".

  9. I honestly agree with you, the customization is a feature that I have been waiting a long time for pokemon to get. I mean come on, it is a freaking rpg after all, a customization feature is just as enjoyable as any other part of the game.

  10. I already miss the customization. In the Pokemon games, the playable characters never had a backstory. They are simply soulless puppets and the player never gets a bond to the character you play. You just play as Red, Brendan and whatever their names are. So I don't really understand their decision to keep that function out.

  11. So no character customization, No 3D on the overworld, Battles likely still go at 2fps with 3d on, and there won't be a patch to allow the new megas to be used in X/Y. Oh but don't worry. You can cosplay your useless pikachu's though complete with animations and moves for each costume.

  12. Character customization was one of the best new features they have added to Pokémon, that was one of the reasons why Pokémon X/Y is the best Pokémon game to date

  13. No trainer customisation!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Why. Just why.

  14. The Trainer Customization in X/Y made me go "YES !! FINALLY !!! I'VE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS !!! DOES IT MEAN EVERY NEW POKEMON GAME WILL ALLOW YOU TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR TRAINER NOW ?? THAT'S SO COOL !! WORTH THE WAIT"

  15. Guess I'll just wait for a new, original Pokemon game, and see if I'll be able to customize my trainer...if not, well, Game Freak just took a HUGE step backwards.

  16. Having joined the fandom with XY I sort of felt like getting to customize my own character was part of the new experience. It's part of the whole pokemon thing, wanting to be a trainer and raise your own creatures and carve out a name for yourself. Now it feels like I can't do that. I can only be May.

  17. The fact that they think that feature is "unique" to Kalos makes me think it's even less likely to go on to Gen 7. It's a lazy excuse imo. I'm tired of Gamefreak making great features and removing them in the next games. It's not like they don't make plenty of money so they could include the feature if they wanted to.

  18. I'm so worried that it'll go the way of Pokemon following you that we had in HGSS. Customization was one of my favorite parts of the new game, it made it feel so personal. I felt like I was playing Pokemon, not playing as a Pokemon trainer.

  19. The biggest innovation is always the feature that doesn't return in the next games. Pokemon following you, secret bases, trainer customization, etc. So I'm calling it now, free form flying won't return in gen 7. Mege evolution's the only exception, but that was a gameplay changer.

  20. That's a huge bummer, character customisation has always been of of the favorite parts in games in general for me. It just makes the character feel more like 'me'.

  21. This sucks, and their excuses are frankly just that - excuses. Anyone defending them removing a new feature that many people enjoyed, myself included, is a blind fanboy.
Game Freak have proven time and time again that they are lazy with the majority of their work, and whilst the new improvements are great, just remember that it's taken them almost twenty years to implement common sense things like being able to fly from your map screen, and flying to routes.

  22. I hate GameFreaks dogmatic approach to design. We can almost say for certain that Gen 7 WILL NOT feature trainer customization because they believe it goes with some sort of "French motif". In fact, we won't see customization until a Gen 6 remake.

  23. Beyond annoyed. I honestly didn't think this would happen... they seem to have gone out of their way to make this an amazing release, and it made no sense for them to just take away one of the best features of the last games. Really aggravating.

  24. I cared more for it simply because I got a darker skin tone, making the character look a bit more like me. I felt this way when they finally added a female protagonist, Kris.
I play Pokemon as if I'm the one in that universe, so I like my character to physically resemble me as best as possible. It helps me with the immersion and personal feeling of going on my own adventure.
I understand this doesn't matter quite as much to many people, especially those who already somewhat resemble a default protagonist. I can only speak for why customization matters to me.

  25. GameFreak is always adding obvious new features that everyone loves,a nd then taking them away forever one game later.

Getting pretty sick of it, but they know they don't have to care. Honestly, GameFreak is kind of a shitty developer. They've just stumbled onto a formula that prints money with minimal effort.

  26. I was hoping we'd get skin/eye/hair color at least, I'm not a fan of the blonde and grey eyed May.I felt the same with following pokemon, it was a great way to add immersion and we'll probably never see it again.

Clothing customisation would be so nice now, specially with the secret base gym. It would be cool to dress your character up with a theme based on it.

  27. Much needed or greatly desired? Don't confuse the two. It's a nice touch, but such precise customization ultimately has no impact whatsoever. The only level that does have a sort of impact (even if it's relatively minor in comparison to whatever you get on your journey) is gender. (This is also barring Cosplay Pikachu, where the outfit worn also changes one move.)

  28. I wasn't bother by it. I understand why, it's because ORAS was a remake. You can't change Brendan and May because they are already established characters in the pokemon universe and changing them would make no sense.
