Tanya has been confirmed/leaked as one of the DLC characters in Mortal Kombat X alongside Jason Voorhees, Predator and Tremor which should excite many fans whose cries of including the outerworld princess fell on deaf ears when Mortal Kombat 9 was in development and even after it's initial release date in 2011, but unfortunately it seems like they have given her the Jade treatment.
It seems like Tanya has been heavily bleaching her skin, especially when you compare her earlier Mortal Kombat 4, Mortal Kombat Armageddon and Deception models to her latest model in MKX. We've hoping it's just early development and this isn't the final look as this would certainly disappoint us and many true fans of Tanya.
Besides Jacqui briggs who only just made her debut in Mortal Kombat X, there hasn't been any dark skin female characters which certain players could levitate to besides Tanya who many identify with being the black female of the series, it used to be Jade but alas they lightened up her skin tone and all players were left with were Tanya, until now...
We're sure the question on everyone's mind are did they give Tanya the Vanessa treatment?? The reference refers to Virtual Fighter 5, when SEGA AM2 heavily bleached and lightened the skin tone of the only playable dark skin female on their roster. So far it seems like Tanya looks like a mix between professional wrestler Chyna, Xena Warrior Princess or a busted ass B.Orchid, a far cry from her original look.
We just want fans to let NetherRealm Studios know that this isn't okay and for NRS to listen and understand that whitewashing and erasing her black features is a real problem. We're crossing our fingers that this isn't the final in-game look as we're sure it would disappoint a majority of Tanya's fanbase as it does us.
After fan's recent dismay of Tanya's redesign in Mortal Kombat 10, Tanya's skin tone has supposedly been restored as has her hair and eyes which were also updated. We couldn't have done it without you guys, thank you, thank you to everyone who gave a damn and hopefully this doesn't happen again, the Tanya we know and love is back.
